I spent some time with Mike Martini of No Limits: The Thriller Podcast a few weeks ago to discuss my debut espionage thriller, SHADOWS OF THE FATHERS.

In this spoiler-free chat, we discuss several things related to the book. Some highlights include the meaning behind the title, some core themes, and the thought process behind crafting main character Hunter Long. I outline a few real-world things happening in Mexico right now between the cartels and China, and how involved Russia has become south of the border, which all could lead to a dangerous and complicated proxy war for the United States. Host Mike Martini gives his take on how SHADOWS OF THE FATHERS stacks up against other espionage and crime thrillers, including the fight scenes, something many action thriller fans use as a measuring stick.

Mike and I talk a bit about my process as a writer. We get into what it takes to put problems in front of characters, and the challenges of getting them out of those problems with limited resources. I reveal how much planning and research goes into a book like this, and how important it is to get to know the characters before deciding how they react to the plot.

Lastly, we discuss the podcast and Patreon group, and what it’s like to be part of the ThrillerPod community.

What happens when a desk-bound CIA analyst is forced to step into the shoes of a ghost?

If you love the gritty realism of Sicario, the high-stakes underworld of Narcos, and the relentless drive of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, you need to meet Hunter Long. He is a fish

out of water thrust straight into a brutal underworld of crime in Mexico. To stop a massive cartel plot and survive his own family's dark legacy, he has to ditch his desk and adopt a primal code of survival. It’s a journey of mission, brotherhood, legacy, and absolute composure under extreme pressure.

SHADOWS OF THE FATHERS is espionage thriller set against the gritty backdrop of the modern drug war. You’ll experience elements of gritty crime drama, complex family dynamics, and action-adventure. Hunter Long's baptism by fire arrives 10/21/26, with the book releasing worldwide in print, audiobook, and e-book/Kindle.
